Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common inquiries about our platform, high-risk payment processing, and technical integration.

General Questions

What is Sola?

Sola is a specialized European payment gateway engineered for high-risk and regulated industries. We provide stable, compliant, and developer-first payment solutions—from our hosted Payment Page to our server-to-server Gate API—to solve the unique challenges of businesses in sectors like iGaming, Forex, and subscriptions.

How does Sola ensure security?

Security and compliance are our foundation. We are a PCI DSS Level 1 certified provider, the highest standard of security in the payments industry. This is critical for protecting your high-risk merchant account and ensuring customer data is secure. We manage this complexity so you can operate with confidence.

What countries do you specialize in?

We have deep expertise in the European regulatory landscape. We provide specialized support for major player markets like Germany (Sofort) and the Netherlands (iDEAL), and are experts in the operational requirements of licensing hubs like Cyprus, Latvia, and Malta.

High-Risk & Compliance

Why is my business considered 'high-risk'?

Industries are classified as high-risk due to factors like higher chargeback ratios (iGaming), complex regulations (Forex), or specific business models (subscriptions). Traditional banks often avoid these sectors. We specialize in providing stable, long-term merchant accounts for these verticals.

What specific high-risk industries do you support?

We have extensive experience supporting a wide range of regulated industries, including iGaming, online gambling, Forex trading platforms, subscription services, and more. If you're unsure, contact our team to discuss your specific business model.

How does Sola help mitigate chargebacks?

We help you mitigate chargebacks at multiple levels. Our system enforces robust 3-D Secure protocols for card payments, utilizes bank-level SCA for Open Banking, and our AI-powered fraud engine monitors transactions in real-time to stop fraudulent activity before it results in a chargeback.

Payments & Transactions

What is the difference between one-step and two-step transactions?

A one-step transaction (sale) authorizes and captures funds immediately. A two-step transaction (auth/capture) is crucial for many business models, allowing you to first place a hold on funds (authorization) and capture them later. Both are fully supported by our Gate API.

How do refunds and payouts work?

You can issue full or partial refunds for any successful transaction via our Dashboard or programmatically through the Gate API. Payouts to customers are also supported, a key feature for industries like iGaming and online gambling where winnings must be disbursed.

How do I handle asynchronous payment statuses?

Many payment methods like Open Banking are asynchronous. A 'processing' status means the transaction has been initiated but we are awaiting final confirmation from the bank. Your system must be architected to rely on our webhooks (callbacks) for the final, definitive status ('success' or 'decline').

Accounts & Settlements

How do settlements work?

Funds from your successful transactions are accumulated in your merchant account balance. Based on your agreed-upon schedule, these funds are automatically settled and transferred to your designated corporate bank account.

Can I check my account balance programmatically?

Yes. Our Data API provides secure endpoints for you to programmatically check your current and available balances. This is essential for automating financial reconciliation and internal reporting.

How are your fees structured for high-risk accounts?

Our pricing is transparent and tailored to your business model, transaction volume, and risk profile. We build long-term partnerships, not transactional relationships. For a detailed fee structure, please contact our experts.

Technical & Integration

What is the difference between the Payment Page and the Gate API?

The Payment Page is our secure, hosted solution for the fastest integration and simplified PCI DSS scope. The Gate API is our powerful server-to-server solution for full control over the checkout experience. Our Integration Guide helps you choose.

What is a signature and why is it required?

A signature is a cryptographic hash of your request data, created with your project's secret key. It is required for all API requests to ensure data integrity and to authenticate the origin of the request. This is a critical security measure to prevent tampering.

How should our system handle webhooks (callbacks)?

You must set up a dedicated endpoint (URL) on your server to listen for our webhooks. When a webhook is received, your system must first validate its signature to confirm its authenticity. Only after successful validation should you update the order status in your database.
